Lidl Hungary has launched a major logistics hub in Kiskunfélegyháza, marking a significant investment of nearly 60 billion forints, or approximately €162 million. This new facility, which stands as Lidl’s largest warehouse in the country, is set to enhance the supply chain for about 70 of its stores. Spanning an impressive 83,000 square meters, the logistics center not only bolsters the company’s infrastructure but also contributes to the local economy by generating over 400 jobs. Additionally, Lidl has plans to recruit around 50 more employees shortly.
The state-of-the-art facility boasts 194 loading docks and includes a refrigerated section covering 24,000 square meters. To align with modern sustainability practices, the logistics center incorporates several energy-efficient features. Notably, it is equipped with a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation, and it harnesses waste heat from its refrigeration systems to provide underfloor heating. Complementing these technological advancements, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green space surrounds the site, emphasizing Lidl’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
This new logistics center is poised to significantly enhance Lidl’s ability to distribute goods efficiently across Hungary. With plans to dispatch approximately 4,500 pallets of goods daily, the facility will play a crucial role in fortifying the company’s nationwide supply network. This development underscores Lidl’s strategic focus on expanding its market presence while maintaining robust operations within the country.
Presently, Lidl operates 220 stores throughout Hungary, with nearly 60% of its product offerings sourced from Hungarian suppliers. The opening of the Kiskunfélegyháza logistics center is a pivotal step in the retailer’s ongoing expansion strategy. By bolstering its logistical capabilities, Lidl aims to ensure seamless distribution and reinforce its commitment to supporting domestic production and suppliers.
